Consumer Electronic Show 2015 reveals new technology

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is an event full of new and upcoming technology. CES took place on Jan. 6 and carried out until Jan. 9 in Las Vegas. This four day event was packed full of technology. A recap of CES can be viewed online through The Verge on YouTube. Below are some of the technology pieces that were presented at CES.
Gogoro Scooter – Price unannounced
The Gogoro scooter is an electric scooter that can go up to 60 miles per hour and can run for about 62 miles with a single charge. The scooter has a futuristic design with configurable sounds, LED head and tail lights and a completely digital dashboard. The scooter also has smart phone integration meaning the rider can use his or her phone to change the color of lights or the sound the scooter makes when it turns on. The scooter’s power source comes from two batteries located in the back near the seat. Gogoro plans to launch battery-swapping-stations in different megacities around the world, although the specific locations have not been announced. Users will be able to to stop at one of the depots and exchange their used batteries for fresh ones.
BMW Self Parking i3 – $42,400
The BMW Self Parking i3 cannot crash at speeds up to 9 miles per hour. The feature lets the car get close to objects, but not close enough to have a collision. Using a smart watch app, the car will have the ability to park itself with the touch of a button. The car will drive itself from a pre-determined point to another.
Intel’s Realsense Cameras – $399
Intel’s Realsense is a camera that understands depth and can use its knowledge of depth in a number of ways. The camera can be used for motion control or advanced 3D printing and photos can be refocused or colored by layer. After developing the camera, Intel attached it to a drone and used the spatial awareness of the camera to prevent the drone from running into anything.
Sony Action Cam AS1000V – $500
AS1000V is the newest action camera from Sony that can film in 4k or 1080 pixel resolution. The camera uses new SteadyShot image stabilization to create a clearer image. Similar to its predecessors the Sony Action Cam AS1000V is splash proof and it can be used without an additional waterproof case. The camera was seen attached to helmets as well as Tony Hawk’s skateboard during CES.
Alcatel Onetouch Watch – $120
The Alcatel Onetouch is compatible with iOS and Android phones and has a built-in heart rate monitor. The watch is charged by a USB port and it has a battery life of two days. The smartwatch can also locate a lost phone for easy recovery.
Bluspark Temp Traq- Price unannounced
The Bluespark is a patch that connects to a phone to check the temperature of a sick child using a mobile device. Through the use of the companion app users can use their phones as thermometers. This device was created for parents who wanted to be able to track the temperature of their children without disturbing rest. Using the phone as a thermometer will work up to 40 feet, from the patch.
Samsung Portable SSD- $240
The Samsung Portable SSD is 72mm x 52mm, making it smaller than a credit card. The SSD only takes 8 seconds to transfer a 3GB file. The portable storage unit comes in a variety of sizes ranging from 250GB to 1TB (1,000 GB).
Helico Aerospace Industries’ Airdog Drone – $1,295
The Airdog Drone follows the user and records video of them while using an arm strap to communicate. The user can use their cell phones to draw no fly zones that the drone will avoid. To keep up with action sports, the drone flies at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour.
Sixense Stem Motion Controller – $299.99
The Sixense Stem Motion Controller works with the virtual reality system Oculus Rift and other Oculus VR products. A base station emits an electromagnetic field that communicates with two controllers and a unit on the back of the user’s head. The two controllers have buttons and analog sticks, but their primary function is used in motion.
The Onewheel – $1,500
The Onewheel is a self-balancing electric skateboard with a single wheel in its center. The board helps stabilize users, but it does not mean that staying up is effortless. On its fastest mode, the board rides at 13 miles per hour. A Onewheel cell phone app can be used to check on battery life and adjust the speed of the board. The board’s battery life is an hour, but the battery can be charged in just 20 minutes.
Pono Music Player – $399
The Pono Music Player is a small triangular prism that plays high resolution music.
It is available in yellow or black and runs on Android and has easy to use menus. includes a pause button and two audio buttons, the rest of the navigation is done via touch screen.
