Since last winter, football players have been training hard and hitting the weight room every week, even throughout the summer. By the time tryouts began in early August, the team was itching to play.
Football is currently 1-1, with a 27-6 victory at Dixon in the first game and a 41-14 loss at home against Bishop Sullivan. This week the Nighthawks face the team’s biggest rival, Manteo, in the Marlin Bowl.
After Manteo, the team plays two consecutive games at home against Currituck and Benedictine high schools. Benedictine High School, of Richmond, Virginia, is ranked 31st in the state according to Maxpreps. From there the team goes deep into conference play, with seven straight conference games. That’s when senior Kevin Beale thinks the team will hits his stride.
“As a team we want to win conference and have the best record in First Flight history,” Beale said.
Beale also has the goal of being the best wide receiver in the state. He already has three touchdowns on the season.
First Flight has 12 games this season, splitting six away and six at home. The Nighthawks will end their season with a game at Cape Hatteras High School.
