Attention all Nighthawks! Have you been feeling like you want to find new ways to fit into this big school but don’t know how?
Problem solved — just join a club.
First Flight offers a variety of clubs students can join to become more involved with the school and community, make new friends and get a step further to figuring out what they might want to do in their future. Being involved in clubs also looks good on college applications.
“Clubs are a great way to meet new people and enhance your high school experience as students,” Student Government Association co-sponsor Adam Herman said.
Friday’s Club Day during homeroom allows all the clubs to set up a table in the gym so students can visit, learn more about the group and sign up. Students with homerooms on the first floor will be called down for this event first. The second floor goes from 9:35 until 10.
“High school clubs are a great way to make new friends,” said Kylee O’Bryan, who teaches in the Exceptional Children department. “When you join a club, you are automatically signed up to work with like-minded people. You will be working together for the betterment of whatever the club’s purpose is. High school clubs are also a great way of getting into a college. Colleges will look at your extracurricular activities when looking at your application. Getting involved in a club can help you become a more well-rounded person. The more extracurricular activities you do and do well, the more colleges may want you.”
Some clubs can be found at a lot of schools, but others are more specific to FFHS. A club that students should check out if they are interested in law is Teen Court. Through the Teen Court program, you can serve as an attorney and determine the outcome of a teen’s court case.
Model United Nations might also spark your interests depending on how well you like debating political issues and attending conferences.
“This is also hard work because you have to write papers about important issues from your assigned country,” sophomore Ben Van Vliet said. “You stay in a nice hotel with roommates and there is a delegates party that is fun and you go to the mall.”
If you are looking for a club that you can just lay back and have fun, there are a variety of choices from Art Club to Yoga Club. For Art Club, there are various assignments to do including the opportunity to create your own float for the parade. And there’s a chance FFHS could get a Yoga Club this year, featuring an actual instructor — Miss Caroline — who will come in and help you work on your inner peace.
The various clubs and people you need to contact if you are joining a club are listed below. If you have any further questions about joining a club or when clubs meet, contact the listed directors or talk to Herman for further information.
