Hey Nighthawks! Are you looking to get more involved at school, make new connections, or find a place to make a difference?
Then First Flight Club Day (Thursday, Sept. 18, during fourth period) is where you need to be to answer all these questions.
According to the mentoring startup, Crimson Education, there are numerous benefits to extracurriculars and clubs, including the mastering of essential life skills and improved academic performance. With incentives like these, it’s no surprise that students are discovering that clubs are an important part of their high school experience. Here are some of the clubs that will be at club day.
Environmental Club:
The Environmental Club plays an essential role in the school-wide efforts to recycle and conserve resources. Its members not only maintain the recycling program throughout the school, but also go out in the community and participate in beach cleanups. They are always the first club to organize a drive for a community in need. If you want to be a part of a meaningful club like this, contact science teacher Katie Neller for more information.
Prom Committee:
Throughout the school year, the prom committee meets to plan and organize the upcoming prom. Club members participate by planning and decorating for the night and then work prom. If you want to help with one of the most exciting events of the school year, then this is the club for you. Contact English teacher Lauren Deal for more information.
Student Government Association (SGA):
If you want to be a representative for your class and have a voice in homecoming and pep rallies, then SGA is a club you should consider. The SGA plans, organizes and works events throughout the school year. The members are always wanting to hear opinions from the student body. Get involved to be the voice of your class. Contact AVID teacher Cindy McNeill for more information.
These clubs listed are just a few of the many that First Flight offers. There is a club for everything and if the school doesn’t have a club that suits you, then consider starting one. All it takes is a willing teacher to be the faculty adviser and permission from administration.
Many students look forward to club day and being a part of something that brings people together. Junior Lydia Surprenant is a passionate club member and president.
“Being a part of a club gives you something to feel a part of and meet other people like you,” Surprenant said. “Since my freshman year, I have loved being involved in clubs that work in and outside of school.”
From political groups to expressing artistic abilities to just gathering for fun, First Flight has it all. Don’t be afraid, Nighthawks: Take the next step to make new friends, form connections and feel like you belong somewhere. Here are some of the clubs you can expect to see at Club Day:
