We asked students what some of their most memorable moments were during their summer jobs, and here’s what they had to say in Nighthawk News’ fun Hawk Talk feature!

“I had to drop off a speaker at one of our customer’s beach houses and they asked me to stay, and have margaritas with them.” – junior Hadley Hedges

“Once customers were required to wear masks when entering a restaurant, people got angry. They would usually either be mad at us and shout, or use the famous “I have asthma” line to get out of wearing a mask to walk to their table.” – senior Acy Davis

“I cleaned pools this summer and because of coronavirus, we have to keep the chlorine high. Someone told me that they would get their husband to test (the pools) after me because they didn’t trust us.” – senior Sierra Ritchie

“I worked at Goombays as a hostess and it is unbelievable how angry people get when I tell them they have to wear a mask. I’ve been cursed at, yelled at and one of my coworkers was even coughed on.” – sophomore Zoe Kane

“One day a woman comes up to me with a piece of sea glass in her hand asking me, ‘Why does it look like that?’ I give her an explanation of how sea glass is formed naturally by the ocean waves and sand. Unsatisfied with my answer, she asks her question again, expecting a different answer to her liking.” – senior Meghan Lewis

“I worked at Island Snowball in Nags Head. This guy was coming into our work and our boss looked at the cameras because he was taking pictures of all of us. She had to contact the police and give them all the footage and they said if he is ever seen at our work again he is going to be arrested.” – junior Hannah Montgomery
“I worked at Dunkin this summer and this guy came through the drive thru 10 minutes after we closed and would not stop honking his horn until we opened the window.” – sophomore Celeste Puma

This is a very entertaining article. I am surprised how many kids had challenging experiences at their summer jobs. Seemed like the only good memory was the girl Who got the free
Margarita!
